A MASSIVELY POSITIVE STEP

It is so incredibly heartening to see students in the belly of the beast rise up and fight for a cause that means something worldwide . This is huge and only gaining in strength and influence. So far amerikkkan pigs have arrested over 900 people for daring to challenge the u.s.a.'s support for apartheid fascist israel . Fuck yeah. Fuck imperialism.

U.S. student encampments demand: Divest from Israeli apartheid!

April 22 – The global struggle in solidarity with the Palestinians against the horrific U.S./Israeli genocide since October 7 has become a major focus on U.S. college campuses. Prestigious Columbia University, located in Harlem, New York, has become ground zero in the campaign to divest funds supporting the apartheid Israeli regime.

The students at this Ivy League university established a Gaza Solidarity Encampment at 4 a.m. on April 17, Palestinian Prisoners Day, on the main lawn to demand Columbia divest funds from Israel. They pitched over 60 tents with an ample supply of food, water and other necessities. Unionized graduate student workers, some of whom have been arrested, are in solidarity with the encampment

April 17 was the same day that Columbia President Minouche Shafik testified before Congress in Washington, D.C., to answer questions over handling of demonstrations organized by Students Voices for Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace. Her administration ordered New York Police Department surveillance against pro-Palestine students, who had been slandered and doxxed for being “antisemitic” for their anti-Israel stances.

Like college presidents at Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania, Shafik was also grilled by right-wing politicians on why she allowed “antisemitic” protests to take place.

As it turns out, Shafik is not just any run-of-the-mill university president. Shafik, who is of Egyptian ancestry, is a former World Bank vice president, former International Monetary Fund [IMF] deputy managing director, former British Department for International Development permanent secretary and former Bank of England deputy governor, and is presently a 2022-appointed Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Board member.

With these banking and corporate ties, Shafik was chosen by the Columbia Board of Trustees to defend the university’s financial ties to Israel. Columbia’s total endowment is $14 billion.

Once the encampment was set up and thousands of other activists, along with faculty and campus unions, descended on the campus to show their solidarity, Shafik authorized the NYPD, equipped with riot gear, to physically dismantle this encampment and to carry out mass arrests of around 100 protesters. For a short time, activists supporting the encampment outside the campus blocked police buses carrying the arrestees to the jail at 1 Police Plaza.

These police arrests, however, did not deter other student activists from occupying the west lawn of Columbia and setting up a new encampment April 18, which is still going strong as of April 22. These students have vowed on their Columbia Encampment Telegram thread that they will remain “steadfast until the demand of FULL DIVESTMENT is met.”

It was just announced on April 21 that all classes at Columbia will be conducted virtually and there will be no rehearsals for graduation due to the school being shut down, which the activists say is a victory for their cause.

Weaponizing the right to free speech

The defiant resistance exhibited by Columbia University students against the Zionist college administration and the police spread like wildfire over social media both here and worldwide, including on the Resistance News Network, the main voice for the Palestinian resistance.

This action inspired students to set up their own Gaza solidarity encampments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Charlotte; Washington University in St. Louis; Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; University of Maryland in College Park; Cal Poly Humboldt and UC Berkeley in California; The New School and New York University in New York City; Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee; University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; Tufts University and Emerson College in Boston; and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.

In response to Yale University students being arrested April 21 in New Haven, Connecticut, for setting up an encampment demanding “no tuition for genocide,” hundreds of supporters have taken to the streets blocking intersections in solidarity with the arrestees.

The encampment at MIT on Kresge Lawn has been named “Scientists Against Genocide Encampment.” MIT has received over $11 million in research funding from Israel’s Defense Ministry since 2015.

More such solidarity actions are sure to spring up in the coming days and weeks.

Student walkouts, inspired by the Columbia struggle, have taken place at Boston University, Harvard University and elsewhere, also with their own demands that their universities divest from Israel.

This struggle over the right to free speech is nothing new for college campuses, which have come under the intense scrutiny by right-wing forces that defend a terrorist regime now isolated and ostracized in every corner of the world. When it comes to defending Palestinian liberation, these attacks have reached a fever pitch.

Whenever pro-Palestine sentiments have been the center of protests, the right wing has used the false narrative of “antisemitism” to attempt to silence the protests, but they are losing this battle on ideological grounds.

Crying antisemitism is a desperate cover for the Zionists’ white supremacist, settler-colonial ideology, which is denounced by many anti-Zionist Jewish people who say “not in our name.” Many progressive Jewish students are participating in these encampments.

The current campus actions confront the right wing’s fascistic ideology, which has been the cornerstone of anti-Arab genocide, ethnic cleansing and displacement of the Palestinian people from their homeland for almost 76 years.

The racist ideology that the U.S. and Western imperialism has used for decades to defend Israel’s “right to exist” and its “right to defend itself” has been the basis for arming Israel’s occupying forces with the most sophisticated weaponry to oppress the Palestinians and threaten their allies, such as Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. Israel could not exist for one day without the financial and military aid supplied by the U.S. and other Western powers.

As the Biden administration continues to sign bills giving away more billions of dollars in arms to Israel, the White House issued an April 20 statement condemning the Columbia University protests as being “blatantly antisemitic, unconscionable and dangerous.”

That statement called October 7 “the worst massacre committed against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.” There was not one word about the more than 34,000 Palestinian civilians, mainly children, who have been slaughtered over the past six months by the U.S.-backed Israel regime.

As pro-Palestine students have rightfully raised, your right to free speech depends on which side you are on. Asna Tabassum, a Muslim student who was named valedictorian at the University of Southern California, was banned from making a speech during her graduation for her pro-Palestinian views. There is a struggle to win her the right to give her speech and not silence her.

The heroic students at Columbia and elsewhere have shown that no matter the verbal abuse and physical repression hurled their way, the deeper will be their resolve to continue their campaigns until the genocide stops once and for all, and Palestinians inevitably kick out their colonial oppressors in order to reclaim their land, resources and their freedom. This is what real solidarity looks like.

The UC Berkeley Divest Coalition stated: “For Palestine, we must fight. For Gaza, we must win. For all of us, and because of the Palestinian resistance, we will win.

Glory to the martyrs, glory to our noble resistance, and glory to the people.” (Resistance News Network, April 23, 2024)

CAN YOU FUCKING SEE IT NOW ?

For all of those people who bray on about some sort of fictitious " democracy " , where the fuck is it? Does it exist for the thousands of children buried under the rubble in Gaza ? For all who are literally being starved to death ? Is it democracy bringing death to tens of thousands in the form of bombs paid for by the "leader of the free world ", the u.s.a. ? Yes, it fucking is. Fuck your bullshit democracy and the genocide it funds.

Palestinian Children, Civilians Killed in New Israeli Massacres across Gaza

Israeli raids in theGaza Strip resulted in the killing of over 30 Palestinians and the wounding of 69 more, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza reported on Saturday.

At least 15 Palestinians, including eight children, were killed in Israeli raids on the central and southern Gaza Strip, while more bodies continue to be recovered from the sites from which the Israeli occupation army withdrew.

Six civilians, including four children, were killed in an early morning bombing that targeted a residential house in the Saudi neighborhood west of Rafah city.

Additionally, in the southern Gaza Strip, photojournalist Ibrahim Al-Gharbawi was killed in an Israeli bombing on Hamad Town in Khan Yunis, while three other Palestinians were killed in a separate bombing near Faisal School in the Japanese neighborhood.

In the central Gaza Strip, a devastating Israeli raid on a house in the Nuseirat camp claimed the lives of nine civilians, including four children, and left 30 others wounded.

Rescue efforts managed to retrieve four bodies and rescue several wounded individuals from the rubble hours after the attack.

Following the massacre, Israeli aircraft launched further airstrikes in the vicinity of Nuseirat and the Al-Zawaideh areas.

Moreover, Israeli artillery bombarded areas north of Nuseirat and Bureij camps, as well as residential areas in Al-Mughraqa town.

On Friday, Israeli airstrikes targeted a building housing displaced persons belonging to the International Red Cross on Al-Wahda Street in central Gaza City, resulting in the killing of three Palestinians.

In the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli forces reportedly opened fire in the vicinity of Beit Lahia city and east of Jabaliya camp, according to Palestinian sources.

Mass Graves

Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza continue the painful task of recovering the bodies of Palestinians following the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces.

Nesma Al-Halabi, media coordinator for the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights in Gaza, announced on Friday the recovery of 283 bodies from three mass graves discovered in the Strip after Israeli forces withdrew from Al-Shifa Medical Complex, Kamal Adwan Hospital, and Nasser Hospital.

Al-Halabi further stated that 500 people are still missing, raising concerns that they were killed by occupation forces and buried in undiscovered mass graves.

The Palestinian Civil Defense reported the recovery of approximately 400 bodies from three mass graves in the vicinity of Nasser Complex in Khan Yunis since the start of recovery operations a week ago. These mass graves serve as harrowing evidence of Israeli crimes against humanity.

While Washington expressed concern over reports of mass graves in Gaza, requesting information from Israel, other Western countries and international organizations called for an independent investigation.

Gaza Genocide Continues

Currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 34,388 Palestinians have been killed, and 77,437 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.

Moreover, at least 7,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip.

Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.

The Israeli war has resulted in an acute famine, mostly in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of many Palestinians, mostly children.

The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.

Israel says that 1,200 soldiers and civilians were killed during the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation on October 7. Israeli media published reports suggesting that many Israelis were killed on that day by ‘friendly fire’.

SUPPORT FROM THE PFLP

Palestinian resistance hails U.S. student movement

The Central Media Office for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued the following April 23, 2024, statement on the Resistance News Network on April 23,2024.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine condemns the repressive practices of the administrations of universities in the United States and affirms its support for the struggle for by the student movement in support of Palestine.

At a time when the genocide war against our unarmed Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip continues and the brutal Zionist practices in Al-Quds and the West Bank, executed by the Zionist occupation army in partnership, support and complicity with the U.S. administration and Western colonial countries, aligned with all the forces of evil and tyranny in the world, when the occupation army has been committing massacres and brutal crimes for over 200 days now, the likes of which human history has never witnessed before and at a time when all lovers of peace in the world stand by the Palestinian people in their just struggle to reclaim their usurped rights, the ugly face of Zionist racism clearly appears.

While our students in U.S. universities were looking forward to support and solidarity from the university administrations, which prioritized their interests, profits and investments over noble human values, they have undertaken a number of punitive measures against students, faculty and staff, threatening and extorting them for nothing but standing by the Palestinian people and supporting their just struggle for freedom and human dignity.

These administrations prioritize their interests over Palestinian blood and human values and engage in hate speeches against Arabs and Muslims, canceling student organizations’ licenses, deluding themselves that by doing so they can suppress our students’ struggle in the universities within the United States.

We in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, along with all our people, the honorable of our nation and the world, confirm our steadfast support for the struggle of the student youth movements, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) at universities such as Columbia, Rutgers, Yale and Stanford, among others. We call for enhancing the unity of students and their struggle to divest U.S. universities from the Zionist entity and cut all forms of relations with it.

As we highly appreciate the positions, movements and struggles of our students in U.S. universities and call for the escalation of their struggle against aggressive policies and the rejection of compliance with the policies biased in favor of the occupation, we also call for the strengthening of ranks and enhancing the unity of students.

We highly value the supportive and solidarity positions for the struggle of our people in various U.S. universities and around the world and all the strugglers for freedom, justice and human dignity.

This statement was lightly edited.

Sparks from Columbia Spread to Campuses in the U.S. … and the World

As word spread on Thursday, April 18, of the police/university attack on Columbia protesters, students from at least 13 colleges and universities around the U.S. and the world responded with outrage and inspiration. Hundreds of students at Yale University in New Haven marched; when warned by university officials to disperse they ignored them, forming a solidarity encampment outside the Board of Trustees meeting. Students at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill also rallied and set up a solidarity encampment in defiance of threats from administrators.

Student walkouts and/or rallies and marches also took place at Harvard University (200 people), MIT and Boston University in Boston; at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, (where over 60 protesters have been arrested at past actions), Miami University at Oxford, Ohio (30 people), at Ohio State University in Columbus, at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, at Temple University in Philadelphia, at Princeton University in New Jersey, and at City University of New York (CUNY). A solidarity rally is also planned for Monday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Activists at Bard campuses in East Jerusalem (Palestine), Berlin (Germany) and New York and Massachusetts jointly declared: “We stand with our allies at the Gaza Solidarity Encampment who are enduring a triad of aggression: from Zionists on-campus, from the university administration, and from the NYPD who have stormed the ‘free speech zone’ where student encampments are located.”

From Melbourne, Australia came this: “From the other side of the world, we University of Melbourne For Palestine UM4P, express our full and unwavering solidarity with the brave actions of Columbia’s Students For Justice in Palestine SJP.… we join the global chant ‘disclose, divest! We will not stop, we will not rest!’”

And environmental activists in Columbus declared: “Ohio Youth for Climate Justice remains firm in our stance against the same capitalist institutions that oppress Palestinians and create unlivable conditions throughout the planet. The bravery of Columbia students has sent ripples across the country, and has deeply strengthened the movement towards Palestinian freedom. This rippling effect has been and will continue to be felt at Ohio State until we see a free Palestine.”

All this points to the truth of a statement by a young woman arrested at Columbia on Thursday: “I believe there was a spark today that’s going to spread across Columbia, across campuses in the U.S…. Columbia has no idea what they have unleashed.”

AND THEY STILL FEEL THE NEED TO FUCKING LIE

With the amerikkkans pledging billions more to aid the genocide in Gaza , it would seem that the fascists running israel still feel the need to lie about their successes and victories . Also, even though the u.s.a. did such an admirable job of liberating Iraq, they are being attacked by forces based in that country. Imagine that . This is just the beginning. More bodybags will be coming to both israel and the u.s.a.

‘Abu Shujaa is Alive’ – Resistance Roundup – Day 198

The Palestinian leader of the Tulkarm Brigade, Mohammed Jaber, known by his nom de guerre Abu Shujaa, is alive. (Photo: via social media)

By Palestine Chronicle Staff

Just as the Israeli army was spreading news about its successful mission in Nur Shams, an unexpected event surprised everyone.

Slowly, but surely, the West Bank is becoming another center for the Palestinian Resistance.

Since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, on October 7, the Israeli army attacked with unprecedented ferocity all possible Resistance strongholds in the West Bank.

The objective was, and remains, ensuring that the West Bank does not rise in an armed uprising that could offer real support to Palestinians resisting in the Strip.

The Palestinian Authority played an important role in helping Israel pacify the resistance, especially in the northern West Bank regions – Jenin, Nablus, Tulkarm, and their adjacent refugee camps.

In recent days, however, there is evidence that suggests that the resistance in the West Bank was not crushed, to the contrary, it is growing.

The perfect illustration of this, aside from the rising number of resistance operations, is what transpired at Tulkarm’s Nur Shams refugee camp starting on Thursday

For three days, the Israeli army carried one of the most violent episodes against the residents of the camp, killing 14, and wounding and arresting many.

The greatest prize of the Israeli raid was the killing of the Palestinian leader of the Tulkarm Brigade, Mohammed Jaber, known by his nom de guerre Abu Shujaa.

Just as the Israeli army was spreading news about its successful mission in Nur Shams, an unexpected event surprised everyone, including the Palestinians themselves.

While the bodies of the Nur Shams victims were being lowered to the ground, Abu Shujaa suddenly appeared.

His appearance, along with dozens of fighters, has immediately changed the mood from that of utter grief to jubilation. Hundreds of people chanted for the resistance as many ran towards Abu Shujaa, trying to hug him and touch his hair to make sure that, indeed, he was still alive.

The news of Abu Shujaa’s reemergence was reported by Al-MayadeenMisbar, and other Palestinian and Middle Eastern media.

In a brief interview, conducted at the funeral, Abu Shujaa declared that he and his comrades will remain “on the path of the martyrs until victory”.

Below are two items:

First, the full statement by Abu Shujaa as conveyed by the Resistance News Network. The statement was communicated via their Telegram channel and is published here in its original form.

Second, is the latest statements issued by the Gaza and the Lebanese Resistance at all fronts. The statements were communicated via their Telegram channels and are published here in their original form.

What Happened at Nur Shams?

Full Statement by Mohammed Jaber, Abu Shujaa:

“Praise be to God for your safety. What is your message to the occupation?”

“Our message is that we have challenged the occupation and here we are still alive. We are walking on the path of the martyrs, no matter how many of us they assassinate, this situation (the resistance) will not end, God willing. We are on the path of the martyrs, until victory.”

“What happened in the camp?”

“What happened is that they invaded the camp and the invasion lasted between 50 to 55 hours. It is true that God has chosen martyrs from us, but praise be to God, there was confrontation from our fighting brothers. There are killed and wounded from their side, but the enemy did not admit to them. We challenge the enemy’s institutions to admit what happened in Al-Iyada neighborhood, and Al-Manshiya neighborhood and other regions in the camp.”

“There were many attempts of defamation which fell upon the beginning of the battle. What is your message today?”

“My message is you will not be able to assassinate us morally as long as our Lord is with us, it is hard to get to us morally, psychologically, or anything. As long as our Lord is with us, it is hard for anyone to defeat us.”

“Abu Shujaa you have become a symbol for all the fighters in the West Bank, what message do you send to them?”

“I sent a salute and a message to all the children and all the fighters in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the diaspora, that we will not let you down God willing, we will stay at the best of your expectations. We hope from all the honorable ones to not let us down and to remain on the path of the martyrs, our martyrs.

“We thank all the regions in the West Bank and its camps: Jenin camp, Balata camp, Far’a, Dheisheh, Bethlehem. We will remain at the best of their expectations God willing.”

“Abu Shujaa, a lot of mothers prayed for your safety and they were extremely sad when they heard about your martyrdom, what would you like to tell them?”

“God willing, we will remain on the path of your sons, we will march forward God willing. We are alive because of your prayers. Do not forget us in your prayers.”
