A COUPLE OF THINGS.

First of all, at one of my jobs they listen to the local classic rock radio station. It's fucking stale and boring, and the station  loves the tragically hip. I feel bad for the singer getting cancer and everything, but their music is fucking dull and shitty. They are the Beachcombers of rock and roll. For those of you too young to know that lame canadian show, look it up, because I'm not going to do it for you. Everyone is making a big fucking deal of their concert happening here next week. I wouldn't go across the street if they were playing for free. Yawn.

Second of all, I was cleaning the bathroom today, and whilst doing so, I dug up an old tape that Mike Synnuck made for me decades ago, titled FUCKING PUNK! It is fucking amazing, featuring bands such as Channel 3, The Stretchmarks, State, Stalag 13, Double O, The Fix, and 7 Seconds. It is chock fulla hits, I tells ya, and now my bathroom is spotless. Thanks Mike.

And how many of you assholes are flying the fucking french imperialist rag on their fucking facefuck accounts because of the bastille day attack ? More than one, I'm sure. Are you also displaying the Syrian flag after the fucking french army heroically flew over 30 airstrikes on the civilians of Syria ? Fuck. Obviously, the citizens of france do not deserve to get attacked. My point is, that nothing is fucking "unprovoked " !!!! You can not walk over to someone's house, set it on fire, and expect them to do nothing in return. Fuck that. Read this, buttholes.....

‘Beyond a massacre: France deliberately bombed Syrian civilians after Nice attack’

© Rodi Said
Western coalition forces knew they were attacking an area inhabited by civilians and yet they carried out a bombing. How can 30 airstrikes be a mistake? How can they all be a mistake, political commentator Marwa Osman asked RT.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry has written to the UN blaming US and French warplanes for the deaths of more than 100 civilians near the city of Manbij.
The alleged French act of aggression claimed the lives of more than 120 civilians, most of them children, women and elderly. The fate of scores of other civilians still under the debris is unknown. The letter also mentioned the French air strikes came a day after US warplanes conducted a bombing raid, which Damascus claims killed 20 other civilians.
RT: In January, the US-led coalition was reportedly (as claimed by CNN) prepared for up to 50 civilian deaths when it decided to target an ISIS cash vault. Can the risk of so-called collateral damage be justified for the greater good?
Marwa Osman: They blatantly call it ‘collateral damage’ when it is lives of the Syrian people which are being lost here. No one is talking about this, about the grave lives of the people who are living in Syria because of this coalition, because of the support this coalition has been giving to all sorts of groups. We already saw that the same thing in the French bombing, we saw the same thing that happened in a school in Iraq’s Nineveh massacre of 36 children after ISIS claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks. And now after the Nice attack, we see this in Syria. This is beyond unacceptable, this is beyond a massacre. They knew that this is an inhabited area by civilians and yet they did it. How can 30 airstrikes be a mistake? How can they all be a mistake? This is unacceptable…
RT: How is it possible the US claims it doesn't know anything about this airstrike and that they're still gathering information?
MO: They’re still gathering information? How come they did an airstrike without the information? I am sorry but we are not idiots. Our minds are not somewhere backwards. We know what is happening. We know that every flight that is being made costs more than $200,000 for a jet to go up in the air. And I am very sure that any state that gets a jet up in the air to bomb someone knows exactly what they are bombing. What they did is a… retaliatory move, a fast move just to breed blood in the streets of Syria just to say to the French and the US public: “Look, we are fighting ISIS.” This is not how they fight ISIS. They fight ISIS by stopping the Turkish state from opening its borders where they infiltrate, by stopping the funding, by stopping the arming and by stopping the so-called moderate rebels who yesterday killed a 12-year-old boy. These are the moderates of the US. The US recognizes the support for this Nour al-Din al-Zenki brigade that killed the boy. And trust me, they know who they are because today they told them: “We are going to stop the funding if you continue doing this.” They have been doing this for the past five years. They know everything that is going on. I surely appreciate what the Syrian government is doing by sending this message to the UN but this is not enough... This is definitely not enough. Syrians are suffering; they are dying by the hundreds. People need to wake up and see what their governments are doing and stop them. Because it is their tax payments that are causing the suffering over the world, especially in Syria and Iraq. I am very sure that they know who they are fighting and bombing, but they just pretend that they don’t know.
RT: Do you think there will be an independent and transparent investigation of the incident? Will those responsible be held accountable?
MO: The 9/11 didn’t have any sort of a real investigation, do you think any investigation inside of Syria will come up with some sort of solution or conclusion that will give a closure to the people that lost their family members? No, I don’t think that is going to happen any time. They are not even going to pay a dollar to make this investigation happen…

Two Reflections in the Wake of the Incident in Baton Rouge

July 18, 2016 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us

One: Baton Rouge – Wild Scenarios, Ruling Class Spin, and What We Actually Know To Be True

As of 5 pm Monday, July 18, here is what has actually been made public about what happened in Baton Rouge on Sunday, July 17: after a week in which the Baton Rouge police were caught on video carrying out the vicious assassination of Alton Sterling and then went on to brutally beat down and illegally arrest people who were protesting that murder, a Black man named Gavin Long had an encounter with some of those police, whom as a Black man he would have a legitimate reason to fear, and in that encounter Long and three police ended up dead.
Yet beginning with the first reports of the incident Sunday, the Baton Rouge Police Department, the ruling class media and major ruling class political figures shamelessly fabricated and reported as fact one lurid scenario after another, all designed to sensationalize things and whip up people behind approving the essentially illegitimate occupation of the Black community, and other oppressed nationality communities, by the police. And many of these forces went on to viciously attack the movement against police terror and murder and, in particular, Black Lives Matter, both the particular organization and the overall way that this slogan has become identified with an entire upsurge of protest against murder and terror carried out by these pigs.
It’s not just that the people who rule this society have absolutely no respect for the truth. It’s that they cannot afford to respect the truth because the real truth – that Black lives have never mattered and cannot matter to this system, except as a possible source of wealth and plunder, and that this has been BUILT INTO this system from the slave ships of Day One down to today – is something that exposes their essential nature.
Stolen Lives poster
Download PDF | JPG for web
And here is something else to think about, in relation to the controversy of today and the attempts of those on top to control and misdirect the debate. Look at the poster of the Stolen Lives. How many of the people on that poster, all of whom lost their lives to police, received any form of justice? None.  And that is the hard, bitter, cold – and, if we take it seriously, ultimately liberating – truth.

Two: A Question Posed: Do Protests Against the Oppression of Black People Under This System Do Any Good?

In a basic sense, yes. Without protest against injustice, nothing changes. Without struggle against the way things are, as people have done, they would have been broken. Without the lessons garnered from such protest, people in their masses would not be able to learn the way forward.
But in an even more basic sense, protests “do good” if and as they can increasingly be made part of something larger, a movement for revolution againstthis system. Because, again, the nearly 400-year history of Black people in America, right down to the ways in which this system has not and cannot deliver fundamental change today on as basic a question as to whether Black people must constantly live in fear of those entrusted with enforcing the law, makes clear that this oppression has been and remains built into this system, and that only such a revolution can bring it down.
And there is a third point that must be made as well. This revolution is not something that is only conceivable in a far-off distant future. The rulers of this country openly talk of how the center may not hold and refer to “faultlines” in the social fabric. The basis for a revolution exists in the contradictions of this society. Moreover – and this is the most important point – there is a leader of this revolution, Bob Avakian, who has done the work to develop a strategy to actually build up the forces to lead the millions necessary to make such a revolution, a strategy that could win such a revolution when the time came for the all-out attempt to seize power, and a blueprint and road map for a new society aiming to do away with exploitation and every form of oppression once victory has been won. No, the time is not yet here, but yes, the time is here to very urgently work on the developing conditions to bring forward the situation where such a revolution could be made – with a real chance of winning.
If you are really serious – serious about revolution and serious about winning and getting to a whole new world – then the time is now to get with this revolution.

SIMPLY WONDERFUL

The Hermione and Elly Birthday Show at Logan's was wonderful. Just getting to see the legendary Andy Kerr play was good enough for me, but I stayed to see David P. Smith, and also so AK could wreck the party, although it seems the crowd enjoyed our guitars drums and yelling.
Great people, great times. Happy Birthday, and thank you for letting us play.

TONIGHT, MOTHERFUCKERS !!!

Family vacation time is over, and it's back to work and music again. Tonight we'll be playing Hermione's birthday party at Logan's, with Andy Kerr and David P. Smith. Why she'd invite us along to ruin the party is beyond me. But come on down and help her celebrate, won't you ? It's going to be  an early ( ish ) show, which is fine by me, as I have to work in the morning.
   See you there !

MAKE NO MISTAKE

Let it be known that I in no way condone the cop killing that went down in  dallas. But make no mistake that when you push people far enough, something is going to fucking give. The authorities are putting in overtime trying to humanize these cops, when no such mercy was given to the over 1000 people killed by the thugs in blue last year, and over 500 this year so far.
Politicians and certain liberal types will also use this as an excuse to stop the protests against police brutality, when it is time to pick up the struggle, and NOT tone it down.
To reiterate: That's what happens. That's what fucking happens. Now read this, pricks....

Protesting Murder and Terror by the Police Is Absolutely Righteous and Necessary!
STOP MURDER AND TERROR BY POLICE NOW!!
We Need Revolution!

July 8, 2016 | Revolution Newspaper | revcom.us

A Point of Orientation for Right Now:

Download PDF of this statement for printing
In the past few days, in the face of yet more new and awful videos documenting the real role and behavior of the police, people have once again begun to rise up righteously.  Despite an incident in Dallas in which five police were killed, THIS PROTEST MUST CONTINUE AND INTENSIFY AND PEOPLE MUST CONTINUE TO SEEK THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND ITS SOLUTION.
The Revolutionary Communist Party IS ORGANIZING NOW TO OVERTHROW THIS SYSTEM AT THE SOONEST POSSIBLE TIME. Preparing to lead an actual revolution to bring about a radically new and better society: the New Socialist Republic in North America.
The protest movement that arose once again in the last few days is positive and important.  Slanders must be met with the truth and attempts to suppress this movement must be defeated.   Attacks on the families of the victims must CEASE.
These protests came after the cold-blooded blue-coated murderers of Tamir Rice and Eric Garner and Sandra Bland and Freddie Gray and Rekia Boyd and Andy Garcia and countless less well-known victims have walked free.  These protests come after months of promises, months of advice to “make reasonable demands,” months of advice to “do something sensible and vote” and generally to work within the system: a system that is criminal at its core and never will andnever can give a rat’s ass about the people they grind under and exploit and oppress.
Let’s say it straight out: the amount of police who have been killed by people is tiny—tiny—compared to the amount of people they have killed month in and month out, year in and year out.  So don’t let them change the subject.  The subject that must be addressed is this: how do we END murder and terror by the police, what must be done to STOP it?

Reality Check #1:

Over 500 people have been killed by police in the US since January 1 this year.  In just the past few days, police murdered Alton Sterling in Louisiana for the “crime” of being Black and selling CD’s on the street.  They murdered Philando Castile in Minnesota for the “crime” of being Black, having a broken taillight, and following the order of a cop to show his drivers license.  The week before that they murdered Ronnie Shumpert for the “crime” of being Black and running away from one of these trigger-happy racists.
There will be hundreds of others this year, just like there were over 1000 last year—disproportionately Black, Latino and Native American.  People killed like dogs or worse than dogs for the “crimes” of selling loose cigarettes on the street, having a mental breakdown, asking “why” to a pig when you are stopped for changing lanes, or—and here’s the one these cops really lash out for—running for your life and safety when you see one of these murderers stalking you or coming after you.  And even when the struggle of the people has forced an indictment, none of these murderers have been punished—or if they have, it has been a slap on the wrist.
And this goes on over and over and over again.  The mother of Philando Castile is right to call this a “silent war against Black people.”
Why does this happen?  As Bob Avakian, BA, the leader of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA has said,
The role of the police is not to serve and protect the people. It is to serve and protect the system that rules over the people. To enforce the relations of exploitation and oppression, the conditions of poverty, misery and degradation into which the system has cast people and is determined to keep people in. The law and order the police are about, with all of their brutality and murder, is the law and the order that enforces all this oppression and madness.
BAsics 1:24

Reality Check #2:

This chronic police murder comes on top of centuries of the wanton murder of Black people by the official armed forces of the state, by mobs of backward racist white people, and by white individuals—all of which has gone almost totally unpunished.  Go back to the slave catchers.  Go back to the Ku Klux Klan.  Go back to the racist white mobs that drove Black people out of “white neighborhoods,” beating them and sometimes killing them, and not just one or two but dozens and scores and even hundreds at a time.  Go back to the lynch mobs and the “strange fruit.”  Go back to the killings of those who had committed the “crimes” of trying to register Black people to vote, or the “crime” of going to Sunday school while you were a Black 14-year-old girl in Birmingham.  Black lives have NEVER mattered to this white supremacist system, except as a means to amass the much vaunted wealth of this capitalist-imperialist, gold-plated hellhole.  As BA has said:
There would be no United States as we now know it today without slavery.  That is a simple and basic truth.
BAsics 1:1
TIME IS UP ON THIS SYSTEM.  We need revolution.

Reality Check #3:

This violence in turn is part of something larger—an empire, a whole system, which imprisons, drives from their homes, maims, and kills incredible numbers of people.  The U.S. armed forces have directly killed at least eight million people since World War II, and it has indirectly killed—through its lackeys and proxies—even more.  From Korea to Vietnam, from Indonesia to Iraq, from Central America to Palestine, there’s almost nowhere in Africa, Asia or Latin America that these imperialists have not slaughtered people.  As Martin Luther King said, the U.S. “is the greatest purveyor of violence in the contemporary world.”  Who can deny it?  And again, for what?  To protect the ability of these imperialists to exploit people in every single corner of the globe, to ruin their environments, to rip up and ridicule their cultures, to prevent their right to self-determination, and so on.
Again, to quote BA:
The U.S. military, which they claim is "heroically protecting you," is in fact the machinery of slaughter and destruction enforcing a system of oppression and exploitation that causes horrendous suffering and death on a massive scale throughout the world.
And:
“The essence of what exists in the U.S. is not democracy but capitalism-imperialism and political structures to enforce that capitalism-imperialism.  What the U.S. spreads around the world is not democracy, but imperialism and political structures to enforce that imperialism.”
BAsics 1:3
That system and all its violence is illegitimate.  That system and all its violence is criminal.  That system and all its violence must be stopped.  That system has no right whatsoever to carry out this violence and these organs of reactionary violence need to be dismantled, the whole system that they buttress and enforce must be overthrown, and something much better brought into its place.  In other words, what the people on this planet and all over the world, including here, desperately need is a real revolution.

Reality Check #4:

The only solution, again, is a real revolution, in which this system is overthrown.  And we are building a movement FOR revolution.  This revolution, in order to really have a chance at winning, would need to involve millions of people who have become convinced of the need for this revolution and who, with the emergence of a deep-going revolutionary crisis in society, would be determined to fight to carry out such a revolutionary struggle and to fight to win.  That time is not yet here.  To find out more on how to bring that time closer go to revcom.us or check out theRevolution Club.
As the Revolution Club Points of Attention make clear:
“We are going for an actual overthrow of this system and a whole better way beyond the destructive, vicious conflicts of today between the people.  Because we are serious, at this stage we do not initiate violence and we oppose all violence against the people and among the people.”

Human Rights, Corruption and the Canada-Honduras Free Trade Agreement: The Assassination of Activist Berta Caceres

berta_caceres
On March 3 2016, human rights and indigenous leader Berta Caceres was assassinated.
Berta’s martyrdom now serves as a global symbol of the struggle for freedom and democracy as colonized peoples world-wide languish beneath the yoke of imperialism.
Berta’s death is also a symbol of Canada’s criminality.
In 2009, a western-orchestrated coup deposed the democratically-elected government of Manuel Zelaya. Not long after the illegal coup, Canada ratified the Canada-Honduras Free Trade Agreement, (euphemistically titled, “Canada-Honduras Economic Growth and Prosperity Act”) with the criminal progeny of the coup. Zelaya’s promise of a moratorium on extractivist mining activity was quickly denied, and Honduran aspirations for freedom, human rights and democracy were smothered.
On March 31, 2014, Member of Parliament (MP) Alex Atamanenko, of British Columbia Southern Interior, BC, explained the corruption inherent in the Canada-Honduras Free Trade Agreement:
“Mr. Speaker, let me be clear. There are three fundamentally important criteria for assessing the merits of trade agreements.
First, does the proposed partner respect democracy, human rights, adequate labour and environmental standards, and Canadian values? If there are challenges in these regards, is the partner on a positive trajectory toward these goals?
Second, is the proposed partner’s economy of significant or strategic value to Canada?
Third, are the terms of the proposed agreement satisfactory?
The proposed free trade agreement with Honduras clearly fails this test.”
Yet, despite – or rather, because of these failings – the exploitative agreement was passed, thus guaranteeing an entrenchment of oligarch rule in the asymmetrical Honduran economy where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Increased GDP does not “trickle down”.
Grahame Russell of Rights Action writes in “March 3rd, 2016 – The Day Berta Caceres Was Assassinated Berta/ Who She Is & What She Lived For”:
“Most recently, Berta was killed (…) by the U.S. and Canadian backed military coup in June 2009, that ousted a democratically elected government and brought back to power the same elites that for so long have dominated and abused Honduras; who – once back in power – took all the above and made it worse again, who use repression as a tool of societal terrorism and control, hiring sicarios to target and kill so many hundreds of people since the coup, people like Berta.
The U.S. and Canada helped kill Berta. Seven years after the coup, Honduras has the highest per capita murder rate in the world, and amongst the highest rates of repression, femicide, journalist killings, corruption and impunity in the Americas. Ignoring all this, the U.S. and Canadian governments sign “free trade” agreements and promote the expansion our mining, tourism, sweatshop, banana, etc. companies and investments.”
And yet Berta, a staunch defender of human rights, and the rule of law, refused to be cowed by credible threats of assassination. In 2013, this author wrote:
“Bertha Isabel Caceres Flores, a leader of the Lenca Indigenous people, is General Coordinator of the Civic Council of the Indigenous and Popular Organizations of Honduras (COPINH). A Chinese hydro-electric project is imposing itself on the ancestral lands of the Lenca Indigenous peoples, and her community is fighting for the right to free, prior, informed consent, as guaranteed by the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).
Flores and her family have already received very credible death threats — her colleague, Thomas Garcia, was killed — and she is at the top of a government ‘Kill List’ which includes her lawyer.
More recently, her community suffered another threat. Sources declared that after the (likely fraudulent) Nov. 24 Presidential elections, they will ‘get them all, dead or alive’.”
Transnational and domestic oligarchs are crippling Honduras, scuttling in the dark like rats, gnashing their teeth, always wanting more, but beacons of light still pierce the Honduran darkness, bravely proclaiming Life and Justice, and Berta’s brave soul is surely amongst them.
Berta Caceres’ light is shining in Syria (and globally) as well. In Syria, indigenous (Syrian) peoples are taking a stand for life and liberty, and against the West’s mercenary proxies who are destroying the country.
The direct consequences of the destruction of countries targeted by the West, including human trafficking and mass migrations, are not acknowledged by the imperial perpetrators. Rather, the victims are blamed, so the cancerous cycle repeats itself over and over, beneath the cover of racism.
Democracy, prosperity, and the rule of law in Honduras would stem the flow of desperate migrants fleeing the country, yet the Western foreign policies of supporting illegal coups and transnational corporate rule frustrate these aspirations.
The same can be said of Syria, Libya, Iraq, or any other country invaded by Western powers. Illegal imperial destabilization of foreign countries creates chaos, poverty, crime, and floods of refugees. Yet these root causes are invariably, and conveniently, ignored by mainstream media, which has devolved into being little more than a propaganda arm for Western warmongers.
As with Honduras, the West vocalized its support for international law, the sovereignty of nations, and democracy, but it practiced the opposite by seeking to illegally oust the democratically-elected, and hugely popular, President Bashar al Assad – Zelaya’s counterpart. The same criminal strategies were perpetrated in Iraq, and Libya, to name a few examples.
We are the Axis of Evil in these desperate times of life and death, dignity and despair. But Berta’s light will not be extinguished. It is with the peoples of Iraq, Libya, Syria, and all imperial-ravaged countries throughout the world. Her light will be a companion of freedom and justice everywhere.

Canada’s Fascist Shift

Bill-C51-Canada-Police-State

The “fascist shift”, as described by author Naomi Wolf in The End Of America/ Letter Of Warning To A Young Patriot, is accelerating in Canada with the tabling of (“State Terror”) Bill C-51.
Though universally condemned by experts, and increasingly unpopular amongst Canadians, the Bill will almost certainly pass, as common sense and public opinion become the first casualties of Canada’s fascistic governance.
The following overlapping and intersecting fascistic strategies, as enumerated by Wolf, are being entrenched in Canada, all to the detriment of civil society, and to the benefit of a predatory system of top down governance and control:
Invoke an external and internal threat
The Harper government has manipulatively invoked the threat of ISIS to create unreasonable societal fear, so that it can advance an imperial agenda beneath the cover of lies and deceptions.
There are simply too many holes in the official ISIS narrative to accept it at face value.  There exists too much contradictory evidence of the West supplying ISIS with weapons and foodstuffs, and of the West not being “serious” about destroying ISIS  — in addition to the fact that the West and ISIS share common goals: namely, the conquest of Syria and further destabilization of the Middle East – to unquestionably believe the official government narrative.
As professor Michel Chossudovsky explains in, “America’s ‘Global War On Terror’, Al Qaeda And The Islamic State”:
“The Global War on Terrorism has become a consensus. It is part of war propaganda. It is also used by Western governments to justify and implement ‘anti-terrorist’ legislation. It is the cornerstone of the West’s demonization campaign directed against Muslims.
It should also be understood that the ‘Global War on Terrorism’ supports a process of ‘economic conquest’, whereby countries forego their sovereignty.”
But the unreasonable fear creates the pre-conditions for the government to impose Police State legislation on a compliant public that seeks “protection”.
Surveil ordinary citizens and target key individuals
Peaceful human rights advocates such as Drs. Pam Palmater and Cindy Blackstock are already being targeted and surveilled, at considerable expense, and for no legitimate reason, yet Bill C-51 promises to become even more intrusive and repressive.
Blackstock is an activist for child welfare as well as Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada.  Palmater is a lawyer and university professor who is an  activist for First Nations causes.
Canada’s Privacy Commissioner, for his part, argued that, Bill C-51 “would potentially lead to disproportionately large amounts of personal information of ordinary, law-abiding citizens being collected and shared,” and that, “this sets up the prospect of profiling and Big Data analytics on all Canadians.”
Surveillance of law-abiding citizens, under the watchful eye of “Thought Police” has the effect of putting a “chill” on freedoms of expression and assembly as guaranteed by Canada’s Charter of Rights.
It is not consistent with free and democratic societies, but it is yet another hallmark of Police State repression.
Subvert Rule of law:
Bill C-51 violates Section 35 of Canada’s Constitution by negating and denying rather than recognizing and affirming aboriginal and treaty rights.  First Nations have not been adequately consulted according to Canadian law.
Additionally, Bill C-51 derogates international rights.  According to the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), issues that impact First Nations (such as Bill C-51) require the Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC) of the impacted communities.
Cast criticism as ‘espionage’ and dissent as ‘treason’
Bill C-51 also subverts the rule of law by using poorly defined words that could be interpreted in a myriad of ways.  Megan Drysdale explains in “The Top 6 ways You Will Be Affected By Bill C-51”  that “innocent words” could be “interpreted as terrorism”:
“Innocent words can be interpreted as terrorism
Bill C-51 broadens the scope of propagation crimes to include advocating or promoting ‘terrorism offences in general.’ The wording of the bill is broad enough that a terrorist purpose is not required. Speaking privately about solutions to controversial conflicts or debating an academic opinion that ‘may’ cause a listener to commit a terrorist offence could count as an indictable offence for you, regardless of your own intentions. ‘Being reckless,’ as the bill describes it, can lead to up to five years in prison.”
Theoretically, then, an individual who exercises his/her freedom of dissent, and freedom to resist could be falsely branded in catch-all terms such as “terrorism”, or “espionage”, or even “treason”.
Government intentions revealed themselves in November, 2011 when NDP MPs Megan Leslie and Claude Gravelle were accused of treachery for travelling to Washington to communicate the NDP position regarding the tar sands. Leslie explained that they went “to propose a sustainable jobs strategy under a long term green energy future and to let her American interlocutors know there are Canadians who want tougher regulation of the tar sands.”
Restrict The Press:
The press has long been compromised by corporate monopoly ownership, but now public media is increasingly compromised as well, so much so that media has basically become an “arm of the government”.
A December 11, 2014 article entitled “The Conservative Broadcasting Corporation” , for example, shows that membership of the government-appointed Board Of Directors for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), is dominated by people who are, or have been, financial contributors to the reigning Conservative Party of Canada.
The messaging is further compromised by the government’s restriction of information sources.  The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), yet another “arm of the government”, is being used to audit “radical” charities.  Elizabeth Renzetti explains in “Silence of the Charities” that
“If you look at the 52 groups that have been targeted for audits since the Harper government’s 2012 crackdown on political activity by charities, it’s not hard to see what joins them: advocacy of causes that the Conservative government thinks are, by its own admission, “radical.” I don’t actually know the full list, because it’s not been revealed, but last year the CBC revealed the names of seven environmental charities, including the David Suzuki Foundation and Tides Canada. The free-speech group PEN Canada and human-rights advocates Amnesty International were also targeted. Some 400 academics signed a letter denouncing the audit into the political activities of the progressive think tank Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives.”
Each of these “covert” strategies pollutes the collective mindset of the population in favour of the state, and makes a mockery of the notion of “freedom of the press”.
Arbitrarily detain and release citizens
Vague definitions of “terrorism” coupled with lowered standards for legitimate detention as outlined in Bill C-51 means that seemingly “one-off” debacles such as the mass arrests of demonstrators during the G-20 protests, described by the Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) as “unprecedented, disproportionate, and, at times unconstitutional”, could theoretically be “normalized”.
The threat of arbitrary detention and release is an impediment to freedoms of peaceful assembly, and freedom of expression, and another sign of a closing society.
Infiltrate citizen groups
The threat of agents provocateurs who infiltrate citizen groups also serves to stifle people from exercising their rights, as it puts a chill on peaceful demonstrations.
Maude Barlow, Chairperson of the Council of Canadians, explains in an Action Alert, that “three undercover police officers attempted to incite violence in 2007 at the Montebello protest against the Security and Prosperity Partnership,” and that,  “the proof of their actions was caught on film.”
Such actions, closely related to false flag operations, also serve to deny citizens of their rights of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly – two enemies of closing societies.
Develop a paramilitary force
Private, para-military agencies are making inroads into Canada’s military and security apparatuses. According to a National Post article, “Notorious security contractor Blackwater trained Canadian troops without U.S. permission: court documents”, dated August 8, 2012, Blackwater/Academi has had an untendered contract with Canada since 2006 for training to Special Operations troops and some police.
More recently, a Blackwater/Academi employee informed me, (in person), that his company will be providing security for the 2015 Pan Am Games in Ontario, Canada.
On the surface, what we know about the integration of para-military forces such as Academi into Canada’s military/security apparatuses seems fairly innocuous, however, para-military forces such as Blackwater/Academi have a huge presence overseas, and their covert operations, often with little oversight, and considerable immunity from prosecution, are increasingly involved in assignments that, until recently, would have fallen under the exclusive domain of the military.
Fascistic governments typically employ para military forces to create a buffer (of plausible deniability) to compromise transparency and accountability.
For example, Dawn Paley, author of Drug War Capitalism, explains in a research piece that,
“Through the 1980s, the Colombian state became increasingly paramilitarized, a process which ‘manifested itself as threats, bombings, and selective assassinations or collective massacres of government officials (principally but not exclusively from the left), and of popular political leaders, workers, peasants, professors, human rights activists, and members of nongovernmental organizations.’ “
Such is the danger when countries hire covert para-military forces, often beneath the radar, to advance their agendas.
Establish secret prisons
One final hallmark of the fascist shift as identified by Naomi Wolf, is the establishment of secret prisons.  Since the U.S has “black sites” throughout the world, Canada’s increasing “harmonization” with her ally, in terms of cross border policing and military operations abroad, raises red flags.  If our closest allies use gulags/black sites, are we not at least indirectly implicated?
Canadian diplomat Richard Colvin explains in, “Canada complicit in torture of innocent Afghans, diplomat says”, that “we detained, and handed over for severe torture, a lot of innocent people.”
While we may not yet have our own secret prisons, it would seem that we have used “secret prisons” abroad, to detain and torture innocent civilians.
Clearly, Canada’s fascist shift is in high gear, and Bill C-51, once passed, will put us in overdrive.
How will we ever be able to pull ourselves free of the mess that we’ve made?
