Keep in mind, this is only my opinion.
I very recently made the effort to read this piece of pathetic slanderous shit on the recommendation of someone who knows I enjoy reading about certain historical eras. I actually tried, but from the get-go this came off as nothing but gossipy trash. From the assertion that Chairman Mao never bathed, to the glossing over of imperialist crimes, this is nothing but superficial hype to win over the brain dead morons already predisposed to accepting whatever idiocy is thrown at them. Wong claims to have been some sort of "commie dupe", but in reality, this "journalist" is more of a robotic apologist for the crimes of imperialism, especially since she works for the Globe & Mail shitrag.
She might have been in Revolutionary China in the early '70s, but it was just a reaction to her upper middle class parents and nothing more. All the hype about her being a Maoist "true believer" is nothing but sensationalism. Go and find this book if you want to, but you will not find a serious work of historical merit. This is crass garbage.
