Here’s Donald Trump echoing white supremacists in the South
during the 1960s, with his tweet about shooting people protesting
the murder of George Floyd (“when the looting starts, the shooting starts”).
Trump called the protesters “thugs” to justify shooting them. Every decent
person condemns Trump. But remember when Obama called the youth in
Baltimore “thugs” when their anger boiled over after the murder of
Freddie Gray by police? And what about those Democratic Party politicians
now, like the governor of Minnesota, and all these other officials, who speak
honeyed words about “justice” but then impose “emergency police powers”
and call out the National Guard to attack the people’s protests against
outrageous injustice? Some of these Democratic Party politicians are
not even ashamed to “sample” southern segregationists from the days
of the civil rights movement—talking about “outside agitators” coming in
and causing trouble with protests! All this is yet more proof that
this whole system has to go!
