It was another great weekend show at The Phoenix. Not really a punk gig, but great for the diverse acts nonetheless.
I walked in to Slight Diversion playing a cover of one of my favourite old Rolling Stones songs, "Out Of Time", which they did admirably. That song suited their rock style , and they played a solid set.
Next were Strange Bird, featuring members of The Mags and The Poor Choices . They played well crafted pop/rock songs with a great sense of melody , and they covered Kiss's "Strutter" ! Nice touch.
Crom/Dam played their frenetic punk with a drum machine style, and they were intense. Shelby's singing can get pretty fierce . Stand back. Or get closer.
Midnight Peg from Edmonton had a post-punk thing going on, with interesting guitar lines and a solid band over all. The singer had great charisma and the energy did not let up. People seemed to love them.
I'm glad I went out. It was worth it.
Good night.
