DISLOCATION

Not to oversimplify things, but every fucking problem going on in the world today can be traced back to capitalism and the dislocation and destruction it causes every where it is functioning, which is everyfuckingwhere.

People will tsk tsk about this next story and cry fake tears over the refugees, but they won't see the role their own government and the corporations they serve play in this whole mess.

'This is just heartbreaking':

People shocked at the image

of three migrants discovered

on ship's rudder

The image of three men discovered balancing on the rudder of a ship for 11 days across the ocean from Nigeria to the Canary Islands has left people in shock.

The three men were picked up Monday by Spain's Maritime Rescue Services from the rudder of the Alithini II ship. After displaying acute symptoms of disorientation, dehydration and hypothermia, they were all taken to a hospital on the island of Gran Canaria.

Two of the stowaways have been helped and put back on a ship to be deported to Nigeria. A local government spokesperson said that the third person is still recovering in a hospital. A law enforcement spokesperson told Reuters that the law in Spain states that if a stowaway doesn’t seek asylum, they have to be sent back to the original port by whomever runs the ship.

The amount of people coming to the Canary Islands from the western region of Africa has skyrocketed over the past few years—with many undertaking similar dangerous journeys.

People reacted to the news and are left astounded that the three men were able to survive on a rudder without food or water for 11 days.

While some commented on the determination of migrants, others pointed out the horrific conditions that are forcing migrants to take such journeys.

THE GOLERS

I saw The Golers tonight , and they were incredible. Loud, fast, heavy , and even older than me ! Seriously though, they were amazing , and their energy did not let up. I am so glad I went out to see them.

Stinkhorn opened up the proceedings, with their tight and heavy Black Sabbath inspired sound , featuring Murray from The Dayglo Abortions on guitar and some vocals. They were excellent.

Klawalka played after them, and again, they were marvelous.
It was an evening of heavy music .
If you stayed home, I feel bad for you.

Good night.

REBEL TRUTH

There are probably hundreds of early 80s punk/hardcore bands who were terribly underrated and didn't get the attention they deserved. Rebel Truth were one such band .

Thanks to Bubba for reminding me of them .

WERE YOU THERE ?

It was another great weekend show at The Phoenix. Not really a punk gig, but great for the diverse acts nonetheless.

I walked in to Slight Diversion playing a cover of one of my favourite old Rolling Stones songs, "Out Of Time", which they did admirably. That song suited their rock style , and they played a solid set.

Next were Strange Bird, featuring members of The Mags and The Poor Choices . They played well crafted pop/rock songs with a great sense of melody , and they covered Kiss's "Strutter" ! Nice touch.

Crom/Dam played their frenetic punk with a drum machine style, and they were intense. Shelby's singing can get pretty fierce . Stand back. Or get closer.

Midnight Peg from Edmonton had a post-punk thing going on, with interesting guitar lines and a solid band over all. The singer had great charisma and the energy did not let up. People seemed to love them.

I'm glad I went out. It was worth it.
Good night.

SEE YOU THERE !

Go to this weirdo show. Support local music. It's good and it's fun.

WERE YOU THERE ?

It was another great show , despite the venue being Lucky Bar ! IQ 78 brought their melodic oi/streetpunk/Leatherface influenced sound, followed by the powerful crusty onslaught of Disposal , and then there was Dead Cells from Vancouver with a powerpop/new wave type of  sound, and lastly we had Schedule 1 , who were more postpunk/emo sounding, sort of like Touche Amore. All the bands were different from each other and they were all great at what they did . Success !
It was also an early show, which I didn't mind either, as I have to work early tomorrow morning.
If you weren't there, you missed it.
Good night.

FUCKING RIDICULOUS

I get that people are freaking the fuck out about climate change, but this is fucking stupid. What will changing your name to something so idiotic do for anything ? I have enjoyed this actor's previous work, but something has gone wrong in that malfunctioning brain of his....he MUST be joking, for fuck's sake.

Rainn Wilson Changes Name to

Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme

Winter Wilson to Protest Climate

Change

“The Office” star Rainn Wilson has changed his name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson to protest climate change.

The actor made the announcement via a Twitter video on Wednesday, timed to the United Nations climate change conference COP27 in Egypt this week.

More from Variety

Wilson, a board member of Arctic Basecamp, changed his name via a website called Arctic Risk Name Generator which encourages visitors to become an “Arctic name changer.”

Although Wilson said of his name change “This is not a joke,” it is unclear whether the actor and activist plans to officially change his name on government documents. Currently his Twitter and Instagram handles remain @RainnWilson. His full given name is Rainn Percival Dietrich Wilson.

“With the help of my scientist friends at Arctic Basecamp, I’ve changed my name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson,” Wilson said in a statement. “This is not a joke, I’m as serious as the melting Arctic, which amplifies global risks including extreme weather events around the globe.”

“I’m hoping this name change brings attention to this growing… er, melting issue. We need world leaders at COP27 to take notice and take action. The Arctic is melting at millions of litres per second, yet this problem can’t seem to make a name for itself, so it’s up to us to make a name for it.

“Go to ArcticRiskName.org and create a name that will bring attention to this problem. Then – and this is the important part – change your social media profile or display name to match your new ArcticRisk name. And if enough of us do this, then maybe COP27 will be where our world leaders sit up and notice Arctic risks and introduce a solution.”

EGO

One thing I've always loved about punk is that ego is not considered a normal part of the scene. It is more of an aberration, unlike other music genres where gross decadence and inflated chest thumping is acceptable and part of the culture.

That being said, some people do develop attitudes that contradict this , but we don't live in a bubble, and the society at large is bound to have an influence on everybody, really.
The point is that it's not taken as normal within punk rock and hardcore.

I am always grateful and humbled when people appreciate our music . It inspires me to continue trying to be the best I can be , and to support others being creative also.

Thank you.

NEVER OVER

By now we should all know that no amount of "sensitivity training " , "community control" or "defunding" is going to stop pigs from being killer pigs. It's going to take a Revolution .

Cleveland communities unite to stop police killings

North Royalton, Ohio

Six years ago Jun Wang, a Chinese immigrant struggling with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, was brutally murdered by police in North Royalton, a suburb of Cleveland.

Wang’s sister Julia Rielinger stood a few feet away when North Royalton Police Department officer Kip McDonald shot her brother, after he had already been shot and was handcuffed. McDonald and officer Jason Kimmel were assigned to assist in carrying out a probate court order to transport Wang to the hospital, but instead Kimmel canceled the call to the Emergency Medical Service.

The Jun Wang Foundation marked the anniversary of Wang’s execution Oct. 28 with a rally and vigil near the NRPD headquarters. Cleveland area activists spoke, including members of the Wang Foundation, Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless, Greater Cleveland Immigrant Support Network and the American Indian Movement, as well as a supportive minister and people who have lost loved ones to police violence.

Rielinger described the painful experience of Wang’s murder, where she was locked in a squad car by herself during the 30 minutes it took EMS to arrive. Had they arrived sooner, her brother’s life might have been saved. “Mental illness is not a crime” was one of the main themes of the vigil, which demanded McDonald and Kimmel be fired.

Rielinger has found strength and support from others in the Cleveland area who have lost loved ones to police violence, especially Samaria Rice — the mother of 12-year-old Tamir Rice, killed by Cleveland cops in 2014. Along with other members of her family, Rielinger attended a protest Oct. 22 in the suburb of Maple Heights with the family of 22-year-old Datwuan Catchings. Maple Heights police killed Catchings May 30.

The Cuyahoga River divides Greater Cleveland between the predominantly African American East Side, where Maple Heights is located, and the West Side, which includes North Royalton. But communities on both sides of the river, in the city and the suburbs, are uniting to stop police lynchings

SHOWS AND MORE SHOWS

Our show at The Carlton went well, except the stage is too narrow . Next time ( if there is one ) I'd like to play on the floor.

The surprise of the night was new band Chain, made up of 14 year olds . They were tight with a good sense of melody . It's good to see some actual young up and coming bands starting to play.

IQ 78 are fucking great also. Check them out when you can. And my feelings about Knife Manual are well documented . I fucking love those guys.

Other new bands I've had the pleasure of seeing at The Phoenix are Bug , with the lovely Dan on vocals. They are combination of melodic music and somewhat yelling/screechy vocals, and it works. I need to see them again soon. Also Skull, with Mikey Jak on guitar and vocals. They fucking tear shit up in a Discharge/Amebix/UK82 sort of way. Justin on bass and Devon killing it on drums doesn't hurt either. See them when you can.

We don't have anything booked until Jan.13th, with Hung Up at The Phoenix. It's gonna be a rager.
See you there .
Thank you and good night.
